Funeral services for Gerald “Jerry” Louis Engel, 83, of Sioux Falls, were held Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at First United Methodist Church in Sioux Falls. Burial was in the Hills of Rest Cemetery.
Mr. Engel died Tuesday, March 27.
He was born to Ramona and Louis Engel on March 11, 1935 in Sioux Falls. He grew up in Sioux Falls, graduated from Washington High School and then served four years in the U.S. Army flying helicopters. On Sept. 25, 1961 he married Bobbi Moor, and raised a family in Sioux Falls.
Jerry started his 32-year career with the Sioux Falls Fire Department May 1, 1962, holding positions of firefighter, fire apparatus operator, captain, deputy chief, and chief, retiring as captain in December 1993.
He is survived by his wife, Bobbi; daughter, Colleen (Tim ) Mallatt, Brandon; son, Jeff, Sioux Falls; grandson, LCpl Evan Mallatt, Camp Pendleton, Calif.; sister, Colleen Engel, Vancouver, Wash.
