VS Legion BBQ fundraiser is Saturday
Charles R. Doman American Legion Post 131 in Valley Springs will host their first BBQ fundraiser of the season from 5-7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 17. The menu will feature grilled hamburgers and hot dogs, barbeques, chips, coleslaw, fruit salad, calico beans, drinks and condiments.
Free will donations will be accepted and profits will be directed to the building remodeling fund.
Risty to talk on Spanish-American War
The Valley Springs American Legion will be hosting a Military History program at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 18. Brandon Valley High School history teacher, Jeremy Risty will be presenting a program on the Spanish-American war. The event is free and open to the public.
Chamber’s annual Rake the Town seeks yards to rake, community volunteers
Brandon Valley Area Chamber of Commerce and its members will once again “Rake the Town.” The goodwill event is planned from 7 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 28.
Volunteers are needed to help rake lawns of elderly and disabled residents in Brandon. To volunteer, visit https://signup.com/go/YETKTZ. The deadline to register to rake is Friday, Oct. 21. Volunteers may help all day or half a day.
The Chamber will provide gloves, trash cans and bags to haul leaves away, trailers for hauling and bottled water for the volunteers. Yard and team assignments will be sent out three to four days in advance.

BVSD Early Chilhood Developmental Screening is Sept. 22
Brandon Valley School District will conduct its annual Early Childhood Developmental Screening from 8:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 22 at Brandon Elementary School.
Screenings are free for all children from birth to age 5 who live in the BVSD. South Dakota School for the Deaf will provide free hearing screenings.

September needs at the Brandon Food Pantry
This month’s needs at the Brandon Food Pantry are bagged lentils, bagged beans (Navy, Great Northern beans, etc.), pizza crust mixes, Jell-O and pudding mixes, canned carrots and mixed vegetables, body wash, laundry detergent and toothpaste.
