Local students awarded degrees from SMUM
Minnesota State University Moorhead will award degrees to more than 800 students during its spring commencement program Friday, May 13 in the university’s Nemzek Fieldhouse. This includes more than 185 graduate students and nearly 30 past graduates who are now participating in the live commencement.
Among the local grads are Chloe Askdahl, Brandon, B.S. degree in Biology: Health & Medical Sciences; and Mallory Halling, Sioux Falls, BSN in Nursing, Cum Laude.
BV Optimists well represented in
essay, oratorical contests
Brandon Valley High School students Ryan Presler and Amina Koch well represented the BV Optimist Club in the recent district Optimist Oratorical Scholarship essay and oratorical contests. Presler won the district essay contest, for which he was awarded a $2,500 scholarship. He also claimed third place in the district oratorical contest, receiving a $1,000 scholarship. Koch won the district level of the oratorical contest, and was awarded the accompanying $2,500 scholarship. She advances to the regional level in St. Louis, Mo., this summer, and has the opportunity to win additional scholarship money.
SDSU recognizes student works at URSCAD
South Dakota State University held its annual Undergraduate Research, Scholarship and Creative Activity Day April 12 in the University Student Union’s Volstorff Ballroom. Jada Tschetter, of Brandon, was awarded the Schultz/Werth Award.
“The quality of the Schultz-Werth entries this year are a true testament to the commitment of faculty and students to undergraduate research, scholarship and creative activity at SDSU. The work our students are doing are great examples of what can be done with passionate, hard-working students and top-notch faculty who are committed to being the best,” said Rebecca Bott-Knutson, dean of the Van D. and Barbara B. Fishback Honors College.
