SFCF scholarships now available
Brandon Valley High School 2021 seniors are encouraged to apply for Sioux Falls Community Foundation Scholarships. These scholarships vary in criteria and while some of their scholarships are merit-based, many are also need-based. To apply, visit sfacf.org.
 
Second semester bus passes now available
Second semester bus passes for Brandon Valley students must be purchased by Jan. 8, 2021. Passes may be purchased by mailing payment to the BV Transportation Department, 812 E. Redwood Blvd.; paid online at www.brandonvalleyschools.com under the Webmall button; or handed directly to the rider’s bus driver.
Payment may also be made at the Transportation Building. 812 E. Redwood Blvd., 6:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Kindergarten screening signup opens Jan. 2
Kindergarten screening signup opens Jan. 2, 2021, Brandon Valley School District will begin accepting registrations for the 2021-22 kindergarten screening process. Any family who has a child that will be 5 years old on or before Sept. 1, 2021, is eligible to attend kindergarten next fall.
Specific screening dates will be announced at a later date.
Parents/guardians should call the attendance center that their child will attend to register: Robert Bennis Elementary at 582-8010; Fred Assam Elementary, 582-1500; Brandon Elementary, 582-6315; or Valley Springs Elementary, 582-2948.
If your child attended Junior Kindergarten for the 2020-21 school year, parents/guardians do not need to repeat the screening process again. Your child will automatically be placed in a kindergarten classroom. 
 
December needs at the BAFP
December needs at the Brandon Area Food Pantry include shampoo and crème rinse, laundry detergent, small bottles of dish soap, bottled juices, toilet paper, paper towels, Kleenex, deodorant (men’s and women’s), bags of dog/cat food. 
Due to recent large-scale donations, the BAFP has no need for canned vegetables and soups, both cream and other varieties.
Due to COVID-19 precautions, Pantry clients will receive items that have been pre-bagged by BAFP volunteers.
To make appointments for either pickups or donations, call 582-7001.
The BAFP is open from 4-6 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays and will maintain those hours until further notice.
The BAFP also continues to accept used eye glasses and hearing aids on behalf of the Brandon Lions Club.
 
Brandon Senior Citizens
The Brandon Senior Citizens meet 12:30 p.m. every Thursday at the VFW for Bingo and cards. All are welcome. The group also lunches together on the third Thursday of each month, with a noon meal catered by Tony’s. To reserve a spot, call 605-582-3838.
 
Al-Anon meetings in Brandon
Al-Anon meets from 8-9 p.m. every Tuesday at Brandon Lutheran Church, 600 E. Holly Blvd.

The city of Brandon’s new form of communication is Textedly. City officials promise not to overload subscribers with text messages. Instead, they send out the most important citywide information regarding leaf drop days, snow alerts, street closures, water main breaks, and when the pool is closed.
