Sioux Valley Energy will celebrate Earth Day (April 22) with a tree give-away event. Seven-hundred Hackberry and Black Hills Spruce trees will be given away April 24-27 at each of the Co-op’s service centers in Brandon, Colman and Pipestone, Minn. The give-away is on a first-come, first serve basis, and is SVE’s commitment to community caring for the environment initiatives.
 
Turkey Band Supper & Pops Concert
The 54th annual Brandon Valley Band Turkey Supper and Pops Concert will be held from 4-8 p.m. Saturday, April 21, at Brandon Valley High School.
The event is a fundraiser for the Brandon Valley band program and will feature a variety of BV bands on the stage of the Performing Arts Center. The schedule of performances is: BVHS jazz band - 4:30-4:50 p.m.; BVMS percussion ensemble - 4:55-5:15 p.m.; BVMS jazz band - 5:20-5:40 p.m.; BVMS 7th-grade band -5:45 to 6:05 p.m.; concert band from 6:10 to 6:30 p.m.; eighth-grade band from 6:35 to 6:55 p.m.; symphonic band from 7-7:20 p.m.; and wind ensemble - 7:25-7:45 p.m.
 
BVSD Board of Education openings
Nominating petitions for election to the Brandon Valley Board of Education may be circulated now through Friday, May 11. Petitions are available at the BV Administration Center, 300 S. Splitrock Blvd., and must be filed no later than 5 p.m. Friday, May 11. If warranted, an election will be held Tuesday, June 19.

Loyalty Day Parade planning meetings
Loyalty Day Parade planning committee meetings are scheduled for 7 p.m. Wednesdays April 18, 25 and May 2 at the VFW on Main Ave. The theme for the 52nd annual Loyalty Day Parade is “Celebrating American Patriotism.”
Volunteers are needed to help plan and organize the parade, and donations are welcome. The Loyalty Day Parade steps off at 1 p.m. Sunday, May 6.
 
MCAP stages ‘The Glass Menagerie’
Mighty Corson Art Players will present The Glass Menagerie, a drama by Tennessee Williams at 7:30 p.m. April 13-14 and 20-21, and 2:30 p.m. April 15 and 22 at the Corson Playhouse. Tickets are $10 each and may be purchased online at mightycorsonap.com/boxoffice or call 605-582-2771.
 
Jesse James Players presents ‘Steel Magnolias’
The Jesse James Players of Garretson will present Steel Magnolias at 7 p.m. April 13-14, 20-21 and at 3 p.m. April 15 and 22 at the Jesse James Opera House.

Valley Springs Legion plans April soup supper
Charles R. Doman American Legion Post 131 will serve up their monthly soup supper from 5-6:30 p.m. Saturday, April 21 at the Legion Hall. The menu includes chili, soup, corn bread, chips, beverage and all the fixings.
Free will donations are welcome, as Post 131 continues to raise funds for a new HVAC system.
 
Free district percussion concert
Brandon Valley High School will host a district percussion concert for the public at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 26, in the auxiliary gym. The free concert will begin with short performances from the percussion ensembles in grades 5-8 and conclude with the BVHS winter percussion ensemble.
 
BAFP’s April needs
The Brandon Area Food Pantry needs for April are grape and strawberry jam/jelly, Homestyle Bakes, fruit snacks, paper plates, body wash and deodorant.
Before donating food items, please check expiration dates. Monetary donations are also appreciated.
The BAFP is now accepting used eye glasses and hearing aids on behalf of the Brandon Lions Club.

BV Area Career Fair
Brandon Valley Chamber of Commerce will host its 3rd annual BV Area Career Fair 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday, May 8 at the Holiday Inn Convention Center.

Give cans to the Lions 
The Brandon Lions Club welcomes donations of aluminum cans, which help fund requests for vision and hearing impairment needs. Cans may be dropped off at the Lions shed in the Sunshine Foods parking lot, Brandon.
 
Brandon Transit
Brandon Transit is a public transit system and offers rides to all ages for local activities and appointments including school programs, medical appointments, shopping, daycare and employment.
The cost is $1.50 per one-way ride. Anyone over 60 years old may donate.
Brandon Transit runs from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday year-round.
 
Miles for Mutts to benefit B Squad Dog Rescue
Register now for the first annual Miles for Mutts, a 5K and Family Dog Walk event benefitting B-Squad Dog Rescue on Sunday, May 6. The 9 a.m. starts and ends in the Brandon Valley High School parking lot. The event is organized by Anytime Fitness in Brandon. 2018 Curt Alberty Memorial Golf Tournament on tap
The 2018 Curt Alberty Memorial Golf Tournament, which benefits Bethany Meadows and Bethany Home-Brandon and Sioux Falls, is set for Friday, May 18 at the Brandon Golf Course.
The four-person team scramble tees off with an 8 a.m. shotgun start; breakfast is at 7 a.m.
Cost is $400 per team and teams may register online at mybethanymeadows.org. Sponsorship opportunities are also available.

Brandon Boss Gobblers plans Women in the Outdoors event
Brandon Boss Gobblers, the local chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation, will host a Women in the Outdoors Event on Monday, May 21 at the Garretson Sportman’s Club, 48605 255th St. Registration is from 5:15-5:45 p.m. and the event follows from 6-9 p.m. Cost is $25 per person.
The event features seven, 30-minutes stations, of which participants will visit four stations: Archery, intermediate gun handling and safety, handguns, rifles, shotguns, kayaking and fishing.

Register now for Jimmie Fjerestad Memorial Golf Tournament
Registrations and hole sponsorships are now being accepted for the third annual Jimmie Fjerestad Memorial Golf Tournament. The event, which benefits the Brandon Community Foundation, is planned for Friday, June 29 at the Brandon Golf Course. An 8 a.m. shotgun start is planned.

Registration is now open for the 16th annual Brandon Valley Area Chamber of Commerce Golf Partee. The event is set for Thursday, June 21 at the Brandon Municipal Golf Course.
