Happy Birthday, American Legion
Membership of the Charles R. Dorman American Legion Post 131 will celebrate the organization’s 100th birthday at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, July 11. There will be a short program followed by supper. The event is open to the public. Anniversary booklets will be available for purchase for $10 and no charge for electronic copies.
BASA introduces bumper soccer
The Brandon Area Soccer Association is hosting four sessions of bumper soccer for children entering kindergarten and first grade.
The sessions will take place Monday evenings, July 8, 15, 22 and 29 at McHardy Park. The sessions will last 55-60 minutes. Girl’s sessions start at 5:45 p.m. and boy’s sessions at 6:45.
Bumper soccer is a special way of playing the game intended to take out restarts and maximize playtime. Spectators sit around the field and simply knock the ball back onto the field when it goes out of bounds.
The public is invited to come watch and help keep the ball in play.
Hot Harley Nights Casino Run
The 24th annual Hot Harley Nights will be making an appearance in Brandon throughout the day on Saturday, July 13 at McHardy Park. Owners and staff local business will serve as ambassadors of Brandon to welcome Casino Run participants at the park.
Pancake Breakfast Fundraiser
There will be a pancake breakfast fundraiser from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Sunday, July 14 at the Valley Springs American Legion Hall. Freewill donations will be accepted. Proceeds will be directed to the air conditioning and heating upgrades.
Dutch Oven Gathering is July 13
Area cookers will prepare dishes in their Dutch ovens starting at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, July 13 at Big Sioux Recreation Area in Brandon. There will be a campground potluck at 6 p.m., and all are invited to join. There is no fee but diners are asked to bring a dish to share.
