LE runs ‘Flame of Hope’ through
Brandon on Thursday
The South Dakota Law Enforcement Torch Run steps off in Brandon at 8:30 a.m. Thursday at Brandon Elementary. The Torch Run will proceed to both the Middle School and High School, where students from all three buildings will cheer on the runners and Brandon Valley’s Special Olympics student-athletes.
The Torch Run brings awareness and raises funds for Special Olympics and this weekend’s 2024 Special Olympics South Dakota State Summer Games in Vermillion.
Valley Springs
Elementary open house is Saturday
The public is invited to the Valley Springs Elementary Community Farewell Celebration from 1-4 p.m. Saturday, May 18. VSE patrons are invited to share their memories, enjoy hotdogs and root beer floats. There will also be bouncy houses, music, beanbag games, a photo booth and school tours.
BV Schools topic of Sunday’s Historical Society talk
The history of Brandon Valley Schools will be the topic of the Sunday, May 19 Brandon Historical Society talk. The event starts at 6 p.m. at the BVHS Community Room. It is free and open to the public.
Current needs at the Brandon Food Pantry
Current needs at the Brandon Food Pantry are Dinty Moore beef stew, Suddenly Salad, pizza sauce, small boxes of Pop Tarts, brownie and cookie mixes, hard taco shells, microwave popcorn, Knorr noodles and rice, shampoo (no conditioner).
To make appointments for pickups or donations, call 582-7001. The BAFP is open from 4-6 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays.
VS Legion stages BBQ fundraiser
The Valley Springs American Legion will serve its first barbecue fundraiser of the season from 5-7 p.m. Friday, May 24 at the Legion Hall.
VS Legion gathering worn, tired flags
All worn and tired flags may be dropped off at the Valley Springs American Legion Hall. Legionnaires will property dispose of these flags during a flag retirement ceremony at 10 a.m. Friday, June 14 on the eastside of Legion Community Park.
Al-Anon meetings in Brandon
Al-Anon meets from 7:30-8:30 p.m. every Tuesday at Brandon Lutheran Church, 600 E. Holly Blvd.
