Supe's On: Together, we promote the Lynx Way
When I was asked this week by Journal editor Jill Meier, “What is making you take a deep breath this week,” here’s what I told her.
When someone puts on a Lynx jersey, whether it’s for school sponsored athletics, or a youth tournament team, indoor marching, bowling, baseball or any of the other “not us, but kind of us” groups that use our name and logo, you are representing us all.
Recently, I received a concern from someone out of town regarding the behavior of a youth coach at a tournament. It wasn’t a Brandon Valley School District sponsored team, and the individual wasn’t an employee of the Brandon Valley School District. But, when you put on the red and black, when you wear Lynx across your chest, you represent more than yourself and your team. You represent more than Brandon. More than Valley Springs. You represent our entire school district community and The Lynx Way culture.
Youth sports are about fun, physical activity, learning the fundamentals of a game, and building friendships. Passion is great, but inappropriate behavior, especially from adults, undercut everything we are trying to build in our kids. So, anytime you’re wearing Lynx gear, it means something bigger than the contest you are participating in. It’s a representation of us all. Together, we create learning environments that result in success – in and out of the classroom.
Go Lynx!
