Supe's On: Drive safely and have a happy holidays
By:
Dr. Jarod Larson, BVSD superintendent
Over the course of the winter concert season, I have had the opportunity to attend multiple Brandon Valley music concerts. I am continually impressed with the productions provided by our fine art programs. The chorus, orchestra, and band concerts this past month have been outstanding. If you have not seized the opportunity to attend a BV music concert, I strongly encourage you to consider attending. Undoubtedly, you will be impressed with the show.
Speaking of winter, our December weather has been incredibly mild. Knowing South Dakota, that will likely change. It is incredibly important for drivers, especially student drivers, to be aware of winter weather driving safety tips:
• Leave early;
• Slow down;
• Allow extra space when following;
• Wear appropriate winter clothing; and
• Equip your car with a winter emergency kit.
I strongly suggest all parents and guardians discuss winter driving tips with their children and reinforce those, especially on days when travel is impacted.
A special thank you to all the individuals that have participated and engaged in our strategic planning process thus far. As we continue through the process, we will identify and prioritize opportunities for growth, identify goals, develop action strategies to meet those goals, and establish measurement methods for accountability. For those patrons interested, a public strategic planning meeting will be held on Tuesday, April 24, 2018 in the Brandon Valley High School Community Room to review and discuss the district’s plan.
As the New Year approaches, we can reflect on the outstanding 2017 we have had at BV. We have much to be proud of as we reflect on this year, but there is always work to do as we continually strive for growth and improvement within our schools.
Lastly, the deadline for second semester bus pass purchases is Friday, Jan. 12. Bus passes may be purchased online at the webmall or at the transportation facility.
To our entire BV Lynx family – happy holidays!
Go, Lynx!
