Saturday will be filled with music, as the Marching Lynx step off the day at the 67th annual Tri-State Band Festival in Luverne, Minn., and wrap up at their home event, the Big Sioux Review.
Fourteen bands from Minnesota, Iowa and South Dakota will compete Saturday evening for trophies and awards in three classes at the Brandon Valley Athletic Complex. Classes are determined by the band’s size.
Similar to past years, the Big Sioux Review and Tri-State Band Festival work together to give bands the opportunity to perform in two events on the same day. The Star of the Prairie trophy is awarded to the band that receives the highest combined point total from both field competitions.
The Tri-State Parade steps off at 9:30 a.m. down Luverne’s Main Street and the field competition begins at 12:30 p.m. at the Luverne High School athletic field. The Marching Lynx will be the 16th band (out of 18 bands) in the parade lineup and are slated for a 3:45 p.m. field performance.
Gates open for the Big Sioux Review, hosted by the Brandon Valley Band Parents, at 5:30 p.m. Competition starts at 6:30 p.m. The Marching Lynx will not compete, but will take the field in exhibition at 10:15 p.m., followed by the awards presentation at 10:30 p.m. Admission fee is $10 for adults and $5 for students.
