Lynx wrestlers take third at Rider Invite

Brandon Valley’s wrestling squad wrangled a respective third-place finish in a field of 10 teams that took the mats for Saturday’s season-opening Rider Invitational at Sioux Falls Roosevelt.

“It was a great day for the BVHS wrestling team at the Roosevelt tourney today!” coach Derek Outland said following BV’s first meet of the season. “Congrats!”

Freshman Isaac Klinkhammer claimed first in the 120-pound weight class. The underclassman secured a 9-1 major decision over Vermillion’s Jarrett Rueb to win the title.

Second place was awarded to senior Creighton Klinkhammer in the 145-pound class. He lost a tightly-contested 4-3 decision to Trey Hage of Vermillion.

Sophomore Jorey Sorenson registered a pair of pins in the 160-pound weight class before succumbing to Washington’s Simon Tiede in the finals.

Junior Sam Krohnke also wrestled his way to the 285-pound title match. Krohnke decisioned O’Gorman’s Kenley Lamberty before being shouldered by Canton’s Payton Smith at the 4-minute, 44-second mark.

Freshman Tate Johnson (126), sophomores Jack Smith (132) and Sam Lembcke (195) all claimed third place finishes Saturday.

Carson Askdal and Kobi Terpstra both secured fifth place. Askdal went 2-2 on the day, while Terpstra rolled with a 3-2 win-loss record.
