Brandon students on MSU-Mankato on dean’s list

Four students from Brandon were named to the Minnesota State University-Mankato 2022 spring semester dean’s list. Earning dean’s list distinction are Gracie Adams (Honor List), Angel Betanzo (Honor List), Ethan Eberspacher  (Honor List) and Natalie Wagley (High Honor List).

Among 3,334 students, a total of 971 students qualified for the High Honor List by achieving a 4.0 straight “A” average, while 2,363 students earned a 3.5 to 3.99 average to qualify for the Honor List. 

To qualify for academic honors, undergraduate students must be enrolled for at least 12 credit hours for the semester.

 

Clemenson achieves Dean’s List at Drake University

Ben Clemenson, of Brandon, was named to the Dean’s List at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa.

To be eligible for the Dean’s List, students must have earned a GPA of 3.5 or higher during the spring 2022 semester at Drake.

 

Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi inducts new members

The following people recently were initiated into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation’s oldest and most selective collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines. The inductees include April Nelsen, Renner, at South Dakota State University; and Grace Wright. Brandon, at SDSU.

They are among approximately 25,000 students, faculty, professional staff and alumni to be initiated into Phi Kappa Phi each year. Membership is by invitation only and requires nomination and approval by a chapter. Only the top 10 percent of seniors and 7.5 percent of juniors are eligible for membership. Graduate students in the top 10 percent of the number of candidates for graduate degrees may also qualify, as do faculty, professional staff and alumni who have achieved scholarly distinction.

 

SDSMA scholarships

At the South Dakota State Medical Association (SDSMA) annual conference in June, the SDSMA Foundation recognized its 2022 scholarship recipients for students attending the University of South Dakota Sanford School of Medicine.

Among the recipients are Mason Blue and Mykayla Vollmer-Palmer, both of Brandon. Blue was awarded a $25,000 first-year scholarship. Vollmer received the $1,500 T.H. Sattler Memorial Scholarship. This scholarship was established in January 1999 by Dr. Sattler as a reflection of his dedication and belief in medical education. and is awarded to a deserving and promising third- or fourth-year medical student in recognition of their scholastic achievements. The Avera Health Plans Scholarships are awarded to students who have high scholastic achievements and expressed an interest in primary care or another area of critical need. 

Ethan Thompson receives

AGC of SD HHU scholarship

The Associated General Contractors of South Dakota Highway-Heavy-Utilities Chapter has selected its 2022 Scholarship recipients, including Ethan Thompson, of Brandon. He was awarded a $1,250 scholarship. Applicants must be enrolled in a two-year post-secondary school or college/university, majoring in a career field directly related to the construction industry. In addition, applicants must achieve an above average academic achievement and be committed to working in South Dakota following graduation. More than $45,000 was awarded this year.
