Jill's Journal: The all-gal Special Events committee

If you happen to stop by the Brandon Valley Area Chamber of Commerce the first thing of the workday morning on the third Wednesday of the month, I’ll apologize now.

You see, this is the meeting time for the Chamber’s Special Events committee, and boy, do we have a good time when the all-gal committee is gathered around the conference table.

As an all-female committee, we cackle like a bunch of hens.

We laugh – a lot. And then we laugh some more.

Oh, and in between our chatter and laughter, we actually do manage to get something accomplished.

You see, the purpose of our volunteer committee is simply to plan the parties and events the Chamber carries out each year. Last month’s meeting was all about our big fundraiser of the year, Auction Amore. If you haven’t been to the event before, well, this is the year you’re going to want to give it a whirl. Pencil it in on your calendar for Friday, Feb. 7.

Although we’re certainly not professional party planners, we all have been to them, and we all have clear opinions on what we liked or disliked, things that made an impression, were affordable, and just simple, pure, laughable fun.

It’s the latter that has us giggling like a bunch of school girls.

This year, we’ve decided to bring some “new life” to Auction Amore. We’re tossing out our Mason jars and are replacing it with “Glitz in a Glass.” If you want to know what that is, well, you’re just going to have to show up to find out.

We’re also jazzing up the event with professional photo opportunities, new items to bid on and a whole lot more. I also want to mention that 10 percent of the proceeds (after costs) is dedicated to $500 scholarships for Brandon Valley graduating seniors.

So, whether you’re a Chamber member or not, you’re going to want to come to Auction and Amore to see just what are giggles are all about.
