Boys & Girls Clubs of the Sioux Empire awarded $1.1M 21st Century Grant

The Boys & Girls Clubs of the Sioux Empire (BGCSE) has been selected to receive a 21st Century grant through the State of South Dakota. The $1.1 million grant will allow BGCSE to continue to provide services to middle and high school students over the next five years.

Through collaborative efforts with Sioux Falls Thrive, YMCA, city of Sioux Falls, Sioux Falls School District and additional community groups, BGCSE will provide enhanced programming to reach more middle school children where they are and support other youth serving organizations who may not have the capacity to provide the type of programming offered by Boys & Girls Clubs.

Programs provided by BGCSE will focus on academic achievement, youth entrepreneurship and workforce development at McGovern Middle School, Whittier Middle School and the Community Youth Center (YMCA building) downtown. Through structured tutoring sessions, mentorship opportunities and enhancement activities focusing on STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math), music, healthy lifestyles and character and leadership training, BGCSE aims to prepare students for college and future careers.

This unique collaboration of many likeminded community organizations will allow each entity to work as a team, serving students efficiently, in a fiscally responsible manner and most importantly effectively.
