Mary D. Eisenbraun, 81, of Brandon, passed away Wednesday, May 22, 2024, after a long battle with dementia and Parkinson’s, while under hospice care at the Tuff Memorial Home in Hills, Minn.
Funeral services will begin at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 29, 2024 at Brandon Lutheran Church in Brandon. Burial will be in the Brandon Lutheran Cemetery.
Mary Risty was born Sept. 14, 1942 in Sioux Falls to Oscar Risty and Wilhelmine (Stocker) Risty. She grew up in the Brandon area and graduated from Brandon High School in 1960. She attended Augustana College for one year to study nursing. She held various clerical positions in Sioux Falls, including Fantle’s and Lakeside Dairy. She married Kenneth Eisenbraun in October of 1962, and they lived in the Brandon and Sioux Falls area. They welcomed a daughter, Kristi Lynn in 1963. They later divorced in 1966. Mary moved back to Brandon when Kristi started grade school and she began working for the Brandon Valley School District. She worked at Brandon Elementary first as an Educational Assistant for several years and then became the school secretary there. She worked at Brandon Elementary for over 30 years, retiring in 1999 to take care of her parents.
Mary was a member of the Brandon Historical Society and volunteered for many duties at Brandon Lutheran Church, including Altar Guild and several committees. She was a lifetime member of Brandon Lutheran.
Mary enjoyed reading, dancing (she even taught ballroom dancing for a time!), spending time with family and attending the various activities of her twp beloved granddaughters. She, along with her sister Jeanne, also enjoyed researching family history, exploring their Norwegian and German roots.
Mary will be remembered for her gentle spirit, her quiet, caring nature, and of course her sense of humor. She was dearly loved by many.
She is survived by her daughter, Kristi (Douglas) Gregersen, Brandon; grandchildren, Nicole (Gerrett) Hamersma, Sioux Falls, Lisa Gregersen, Brandon; great-granddaughter, Raylynn Hamesma; siblings, Jeanne (David) Hefner, Little Canada, Minn., Ted (Dianne) Risty, Sioux Falls, Ron (Nancy) Risty, Brandon, Larry (Cathy) Risty, Lake Hendricks, Minn., Tim (Barb) Risty, Brandon, and Dan (Deb) Risty, Brandon; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, and several other family members.
