BVMS parents invited to digital world safety program
A program on social media safety for middle school students will be presented to both students and parents this Thursday.
During the school day, Brandon Valley seventh- and eighth-grade students will learn about responsible social media use and the potential risks associated with social media. The program will be presented by Kate Telkamp, a counselor with the Carroll Institute, and BV School District Resource Officer Tyler Carda and Detective Lee Henning, both with the Brandon Police Department.
That same evening, from 5-5:45 p.m. in the BVMS East Gym, parents are encouraged to attend a similar program. Topics cited for discussion will be student relationships regarding cyberbullying/harassment, how to monitor apps, legal ramifications of sexting, and tips for monitoring social media usage. There will also be time for questions and answers with the speakers.
