American Legion soup supper, pancake breakfast postponed
The March 21 soup supper at the Valley Springs American Legion and the Brandon Valley Legion Baseball pancake breakfast at the Brandon VFW on March 22 have been postponed to a later date.
 
BVSD Teacher of Year nominations sought
Brandon Valley School District and First National Bank have once again partnered to recognize the BV Teacher of the Year for the 2019-20 school year. Parents, students and staff are encouraged to nominate a BV teacher for this honor.
Nomination forms can be picked up at any district principal offices, the central office or from the district website. Two letters of recommendation must be submitted with the nomination form.
Nominations are due to the BVSD Central Office, 300 S. Splitrock Blvd., by Thursday, April 8. 
 
BV Hall of Fame banquet postponed
Brandon Valley’s 2020 Hall of Fame banquet scheduled for Saturday, March 28, has been postponed. BV activities director Randy Marso said the event would be rescheduled for a later date.
This year’s inductees are Dan Hanson, Class of 1976; Mike Meyers, Class of 1982; Heidi Hoff, Class of 2009; and the 2011 state championship girls’ basketball team.
 
SVE District 6 meeting has been cancelled
Due to the coronavirus outbreak, Sioux Valley Energy has cancelled their District 6 election meeting scheduled for Monday, March 23 at Brandon Valley High School. The district meetings will be held in conjunction with SVE’s annual meeting on Tuesday, June 2.
 
Brandon Area Food Pantry’s March needs
The needs for March at the Brandon Area Food Pantry are canned Chow Mein dinners, packaged cookies, granola bars, Banquet Homestyle Bakes, Manwich, dog and cat food (both 3-pound bags and canned). We continue to have an ample supply of canned vegetables, fruits and soups.
Before donating food items, please check expiration dates and that cans are not bulging from age and/or freezing. Monetary donations are also appreciated.
The BAFP is also accepting used eye glasses and hearing aids on behalf of the Brandon Lions Club.
The BAFP is open 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays at 406 Main Ave. To learn more, call 605-582-7001.
