Daylight Saving Time begins Sunday

Daylight Saving Time begins at 2 a.m. Sunday, March 12. Remember to turn clocks ahead one hour.

 

March sobriety checkpoints announced

South Dakota’s Department of Public Safety has scheduled 20 sobriety checkpoints to be held in 22 counties statewide during March. 

The monthly checkpoints are designed to encourage people to not drink and drive.

Checkpoints are scheduled for: Bennett, Brown, Brule, Clay, Codington, Day, Fall River, Gregory, Hughes, Hutchinson, Jerauld, Lake, Lawrence, Meade, Mellette, Minnehaha, Moody, Pennington, Stanley, and Yankton.

 

Father-Daughter Dance set for Friday

Dynamic Dance is hosting a Father-Daughter Dance beginning at 6:30 p.m. Friday, March 10 at the Brandon Golf Course. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the cost is $10 per person. Dads, grandfathers, uncles, father figures are encouraged to “dance the night away” with their special “little lady.”

The event will offer dancing, concessions, photobooth, and tiaras and roses for sale.

Proceeds will go to the Dynamic Dance Senior Worlds Team trip to compete at the Dance Worlds in Orlando, Fla.

 

SD Percussion

Showcase is Saturday

The Minnesota Percussion Association’s South Dakota Percussion Showcase is set from 3-8 p.m. Saturday, March 11 at Brandon Valley High School. Entry fee is $12 for adults, $6 for children 17 and under. Concessions and vendors will be onsite, and there will be a silent auction. Both cash and cards will be accepted. 

 

Cuban Missle Crisis is Military History Night topic

The Valley Springs Legion will be hosting a Military History Night beginning at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, March 19. Brandon Valley High School history teacher Jeremy Risty will give a presentation on the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis. The event, which is free and open to the public, will be followed with discussion and refreshments.

 

Bethany Meadows Chili Cookoff

The chili cookoff is returning to Bethany Meadows this year, and it’s on tap for Saturday, March 25. There will be a variety of soups and chilis to taste test from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. The cost is $7 for adults or free will donation and free for kids under 12. All proceeds will benefit  local fire departments.
