candidate plans meet and greet on Saturday

Gary Leighton invites the public to join him for a candidate meet and greet. Leighton, a Democrat candidate for State House District 2, will be available to answer questions regarding his platform from 10 a.m.-noon Saturday, Oct. 15 at the Brandon Library meeting room.

 

Beck to talk

on ‘Civil War’

The Valley Springs American Legion will host its Military History night on Sunday, Oct. 16 at 6:30 p.m. Brandon resident, Kari Beck will be giving a presentation on the “U.S. Civil War: The Common Soldier- “Billy Yank vs. Johnny Reb.” Following the presentation there will be a time for discussion and refreshments. The event is free and open to the public.

 

October needs at the Brandon Food Pantry

This month’s needs at the Brandon Food Pantry are cereal, granola bars, instant oatmeal, pancake mix, syrup, mustard, ketchup, relish, mayonnaise, pickles, BBQ sauce, oatmeal, body wash, dish soap, Styrofoam plates (40 count) and dog and cat food..

To make appointments for either pickups or donations, call 582-7001. The BAFP is open from 4-6 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Used eye glasses and hearing aids for the Brandon Lions Club may also be dropped off at the BAFP.

 

Split Rock Lutheran Fall Festival is Oct. 22

The Split Rock Lutheran (48295 285th St., rural Brandon) Fall Festival is from 9 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 22. Homemade baked goods, breads, cookies, jams and jellies will be available for purchase along with arts, crafts, home décor and freshly made Norwegian lefse. Lunch will also be served for a free will offering.

Proceeds will go to support outreach projects.  

 

Oct. 22 is tree branch disposal in Brandon

Brandon city residents can dispose of tree branches (up to 12 inches in diameter and 10 feet long) from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 22. The tree branch disposal is located at 408 N. Sioux Blvd. (north of fire hall).

There will be a per visit, per load fee: ($10 for pickup truck or smaller; $10 for trailer; or $15 for pickup truck with trailer).

Residents will be asked to provide a SD driver’s license and/or current city utility bill for proof of residency.

Leaves, grass, lumber, yard waste and pet waste are not allowed to be dumped. Commercial contractors will not be allowed to dump materials.
