Supe's On: Parents play integral part in children's education

By:
Dr. Jarod Larson, BVSD superintendent
With parent-teacher conferences right around the corner, I want to highlight the importance of parental engagement in education. In addition to attending parent-teacher conferences, a few of the strategies parents may utilize to promote the importance of education to their children include:
• Volunteering in the classroom;
• Discussing daily your child’s academics;
• Providing encouragement and positive feedback about your child’s studies; and
• Completing interactive homework assignments with your child.
The active participation of an adult in a child’s education leads to improved student outcomes, improved school
behavior, and reduced absenteeism. Thank you to all our parents and guardians for actively engaging in their
child’s education. Together, we can promote an excellent education for our kids.
In addition to the classroom, student activities play an impactful part in the educational process. If you have not, I’d strongly encourage that you attend any one of our various student performances. Recently, I had the privilege of watching our cheer and dance teams, Marching Lynx, and BV’s girls’ soccer team. I am so proud of our students and staff. Their commitment and dedication is inspiring. It is a true pleasure to watch our students participate. Regardless of an event’s outcome, the life lessons and relationships built while students participate in extracurricular activities promote a positive well-rounded education.
Looking ahead, there will be no school on Oct. 20 and no school for the Thanksgiving break on Wednesday, Nov. 22 thru Friday, Nov. 24.
Go, Lynx!
