Senior Spotlight: Mariah Matthies

Mariah Matties

At the beginning of her senior year, Mariah Matthies stood before the entire Brandon Valley High School student body and signed the song “This is Me.”
It’s a moment that stands out to Mariah, who was crowned BVHS’s 2018 homecoming queen.
At BVHS, Mariah has been actively involved in Special Olympics bowling, basketball and track. She’s also a charter member of Best Buddies, chorus and SALSA. Outside of school, her interests lie with the New Directions Down Syndrome Association and Risen Savior Church. She’s also been a member of Dance Gallery’s Adaptive Dance team since 2007.
Following high school, Teresa and Brad Matthies’ daughter will attend Teach Well, a post-secondary education program, offered in Sioux Falls.
Sweet and sour chicken tops the list of her favorite school lunch choices, and her friend – Josie Mashlan – is who she’d pick to have lunch with.
Mariah is a Green Bay Packers fan, loves the color pink, and the musical group Pentatonix.
