The Mighty Corson Art Players are taking their entertainment “outdoors” this Saturday as they bring The Vaudies to its local audience.

The Vaudies, started by Dave Holly, is a modern vaudevillian performance featuring four acts: Magic, music, comedy and fire dancing. The entertainment begins at 7:30 p.m. outdoors behind the Corson Playhouse, and is a fundraiser for MCAP. Proceeds from the event will go to renovation costs in the basement of the Playhouse. Tickets are $40 each and may be purchased online at mightycorson.com or at the door that night.

Holly and Emily Wilson, an MCAP board member, have stepped up to host the show.

“We’ll have some fun banter,” Wilson assures. “It should be a lot of fun and it’s something different to do.”

Jesse Moffitt brings the magic – and laughter – to the stage and singer/songwriter Mat D, recognized as “the Hemingway of the Highway” will share his musical talents.

Folks won’t want to miss the laughs that comedian Nathan Hults has in store.

“Nathan is one of the best regional comedians,” Wilson said.

Closing out the night will be a performance by Last Ember, fire dancers Maria and Dalton Mayo.

MCAP recently announced its lineup of 2023-24 productions. They’ll open the season with Laurel Ollsten’s “They Promised Her the Moon,” which will be presented Oct. 13-16 and 20-22.

The show centers on the first American woman to test for space flight, Jerrie Cobb, who steps into an isolation tank for a record-breaking nine hours as her memories unfold before her from learning to fly a plane as a child in Oklahoma to testifying in Congressional hearings about the under-the-radar all-female Mercury 13 space program.

“They Promised Her the Moon” is a compelling drama about the challenges of sisterhood and fighting for the greater good, and is based on a true story.

Auditions for this show are Aug. 2 and 5.

“Those Crazy Ladies in the House on the Corner” is a heartwarming piece loaded with wisecracks and one-liners that will be sure to keep the laughter flowing long into the holiday season.

The show will take the MCAP stage Dec. 15-17.

The storyline follows three geriatric sisters as patients and all they want to do is sit at home and talk to one another – all at the same time. When Doc Lomax’s new nurse comes to live with them, she has them planning parties, pulling Halloween pranks and wearing jogging suits while they race each other to the corner. But when the nephew shows up with a plan to sell the family house, complication sets in.

MCAP brings its first musical to the stage with [Title of Show] by Jeff Bowen and Hunter Bell April 19-24, 2024. Auditions for this show are Feb. 10 and 13.

The storyline revolves around Jeff and Hunter, two struggling writers that hear about a new musical theatre festival. When the deadline for submissions is a mere three weeks away, with nothing to lose, they try to create something new with the help of their friends, Susan, Heidi and Larry.

The 90-minute show has been described as “a love letter to the musical theatre.”

“It’s our first musical, and so it should be a really fun and exciting season,” Wilson said.
