Margaret “Marney” Jean King, 92

Margaret “Marney” Jean King, 92, of Brandon and formerly of Rochester, Minn., died Monday, Jan. 7, 2019 at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls. 
Funeral services were held Sunday, Jan. 13 at Blessed Redeemer Lutheran Church in Brandon. Graveside services were held Monday, Jan. 14 at Grandview Memorial Gardens in Rochester.   
Margaret Jean Wittlief or was born Aug. 17, 1926 in rural Olmsted County, Minn., to Albert and Veryl (Ripley) Wittlief. She was raised in on a farm in rural Olmsted County. She graduated from Pine Island High School in 1944 in Pine Island, Minn.  
Marney was united in marriage with Raymond Andrew King on Nov. 2, 1947 in Oronoco, Minn. Raymond and Marney were blessed with four children: Denise, Richard, Anita and Merry, while making their homes in the Minnesota communities of Rochester (1947-1965), International Falls (1965-1983), Pine City (1983-1985) and then back to Rochester in 1985 until moving to Brandon in 2014. Marney, alongside Raymond, owned and operated a resort on Lake Kabetogama, near International Falls, Minn., from 1965 to 1977.  
Marney developed a love of music at a young age, and choose to share her gift with others singing at many funerals and weddings over the years. She loved her Lutheran faith and was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Oronoco, Trinity Lutheran Church in Rochester, St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in International Falls, Christ Lutheran in Rochester, and Blessed Redeemer Lutheran Church in Brandon.  
Marney enjoyed reading and working on crossword puzzles. Above all Marney loved spending time with her family. She was proud of all of them and was looking forward to becoming a great-grandmother in April. 
Grateful for having shared her life are her children, Denise Scott, Sarasota, Fla., Richard (Peggy) King, Belvidere, Ill., Anita King, and Merry (Larry) Miller, all of Brandon: four grandchildren, Korin King, Rockford, Ill., Kyle King Belvidere, Andrew (Brandi) Bauer, Brandon, and Aaron Bauer, Colorado Springs, Colo.; sister-in-law, Bev Wittlief of Oronoco; host of other relatives; and her loving pugs: Toby and Rocco.
Marney was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Andrew King on Dec. 11, 2005; parents, Albert and Veryl Wittlief; twin brothers, Dennis and Donald Wittlief; and grandson, Adam Michael Bauer.
