Pickering commits to Northern State

Megan Pickering, a 2020 Brandon Valley High School senior, has committed to run track and field and cross country at Northern State University in Aberdeen.

Pickering, a distance runner for the Lynx, is a four-year letter cross country winner and team captain under the direction of head coach Tony Thoreson. 

NSU assistant track and field coach Livia Mahaffie has high praise for the Brandon recruit.

“Megan is an all-around quality student-athlete. She works hard on the course and in the classroom, and she will add depth to our women’s squad,” she said.

Pickering is one of seven men and women to join the Wolves programs for the 2020-21 season.

She brings an impressive resume to the Wolves programs, possessing personal records of 21:10.00 in the 5K, 2:28.00 in the 800M, 5:30.00 in the 1600M, and 12:03.00 in the 3200M. She is also an academic all-state recipient. 

In addition, Pickering was a member of Brandon Valley’s 2017 AA Cross Country championship and 2018 AA Track and Field championship teams.

She is the daughter of Tom and Cindy Pickering. 

 

Brandon students cited for BHSU volunteerism, service endeavors

More than 100 Black Hills State University students, including Kassidi Bailey and Julia Nielsen, both of Brandon, plus faculty, staff, and administrators, gathered virtually for the 28th Annual Student Volunteer Awards Ceremony.  

Bailey was awarded Outstanding Member of the BHSU Cheerleaders. The elementary education major was selected by the club’s student president.

Nielsen’s honors include the student volunteer award, Vice President for Student Life Rising Star Award, and the completion of the six-week Leading Edge Development Series. She is a business administration major.

BHSU offers more than 100 student clubs and organizations.
