John M. Rodenborn, 71

John M. Rodenborn, 71, of Brandon, S.D. passed away on Sunday, July 4, 2021 at Ava’s Hospice in Sioux Falls, S.D. A Celebration of Life visitation is planned from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, July 8, 2021 at George Boom Funeral Chapel in Brandon. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Midwest Honor Flight or the Active Generations Day Break Program.

John Michael Rodenborn was born on July 10, 1949 in Fort Dodge, Iowa to Don and Billie (McDonnell) Rodenborn. He graduated from St. Edmund High School in Fort Dodge.  

A proud U.S. Marine, he served our country in Vietnam and Brooklyn, N.Y. He worked in sales and resided in Brandon for the past 30 years. In retirement, he loved to fish and refinish furniture. John was a long time NICU baby rocker and NODA volunteer at Sanford Hospital. Whether spending time with family and friends, attending NHRA races, tennis tournaments or horse races, he thoroughly enjoyed any road trip. You could always spot John by his white cap. 

Grateful for sharing his life are his wife of 41 years, Mary; sons, Karl (Sarah) Rodenborn and Eric (Kylie) Rodenborn; daughter, Joanna (Josh) Pake; grandchildren, Jacob and Eli Rodenborn, Alaina and CJ Pake; siblings, Jane (Ted) Wynn, Butch (Peg) Rodenborn, Jim (Ann) Rodenborn, and Molly (Bart) Warren.
