Jill's Journal: Live to play again

I’m a die-hard Minnesota Vikings fan. Always have been, always will be.
And as you know, my fellow – and female – fans and I have been disappointed in the post-season more times than I can count on my 10 fingers and 10 toes combined.
That’s a lot of disappointment for any fan of the purple and gold. Or any team colors, for that matter.
But year after year, we keep coming back with high hopes that this will be the year …
This year, just may be that year.
Although the Vikes didn’t turn in the best ending to their regular-season schedule by suffering losses to Green Bay and the Chicago Bears, heading into Sunday’s Wild Card win-or-go-home game against New Orleans, I had a feeling this was going to be a good day for the Vikings and Vikings fans alike.
And I was spot on, as Minnesota played like a championship team should play. My neighbors may tell you they heard a little hooting and hollering coming from apartment 2. (I offer my apologies to the neighbors).
Of course, the Vikes had a few hiccups along the way – think fumble on the first possession – but they surely made up for it as the game wore on and into overtime. And they did it on the Saints’ turf to boot, a tough place for any visiting team to play.
I’d be lying if I told you that I wasn’t sad to see New Orleans and New England both axed from the post-season. Actually, I smiled – a lot. (I offer my apologies to Saints and Patriot fans both).
The road doesn’t get any easier this week when Minnesota heads to sunny California to take on the San Francisco 49er’s Saturday afternoon.
But once again, I have a feeling that Saturday’s going to be a good day for the Vikings and Vikings fans alike. And I, for one, plan to be front and center – of my TV – to root for the coveted purple and gold. And it’s possible, no, more likely than naught, my neighbors are sure to hear a little more hooting and hollering coming from apartment 2.
