Jill's Journal: I live in a time-challenged world

By:
Jill Meier, Journal editor
I’m surprised I’m on time for anything these days.
I have clock issues.
Multiple clock issues.
Largely due to dead batteries.
Multiple dead batteries.
There’s a clock at the office that runs on time – and then it doesn’t.
There’s a clock in my living room that runs on time – and then it doesn’t.
So, I change the batteries. Often.
And then I mumble to myself that I should replace whichever clock has me mumbling to myself at the time.
But I’m not so sure that it’s the clock’s guts or the batteries I’m replacing the old one’s with. So, I do what every time-challenged, red-blooded American woman does in these circumstances: I give the guts a good whap, and what do you know, the ol’ clock keeps time – most of the time – until the next time.
One of my watches has the same problem. On one day, it keeps time perfectly. The next, I’m an hour or two behind – or several hours ahead, depending on which way you look at it.
The other day while out Christmas shopping, I steered myself into the clock department, where a few of the wall hardware piqued my interest. But I didn’t throw any of them into my cart. Instead, I headed for the aisle of batteries. I figured new batteries and a few more whaps on the clock guts may just be the answer I need to keep running – on time.

Holiday hours
We’re closing shop at the Journal next week. The staff and I are all looking forward to a few days off to enjoy Christmas with our families. Our office will be closed Tuesday and Wednesday, Dec. 24 and 25, but the BV Trader and the BV Journal will be delivered. The Trader will be in mailboxes on Tuesday as usual, and the Journal will be on the newsstands Dec. 24 and in mailboxes Dec. 26.
The following week, our office will close early afternoon on Dec. 31 and of course, we will be closed Wednesday, Jan. 1. Once again, the BV Trader will be delivered as usual, and the BV Journal will be on newsstands Dec. 31 and in mailboxes on Jan. 2.
To each and every one of our readers and our advertisers, I wish you and your families a very Merry Christmas. The staff and I look forward to sharing the news of our local communities with you week in and week out, and as always, remember the true reason for the season.
