Jill's Journal: Comfort is key

Warning: This could be one of those columns that some women may appreciate and could possibly warrant an eye-roll from the fellas.

I’m talking about bras.

It’s a subject that many women have a love-hate relationship with. We love them when we find that just-right style for whatever we’ve been blessed with, yet we sometimes despise having to wear these over-the-shoulder-boulder-holders for whatever we’ve been blessed with. I have a good friend who has been working from home for months, and she’s told me the one thing she’s least looking forward to upon her return to work in the office in a few weeks, is having to wear a bra.

I’ve had little sympathy for her.

All through this pandemic, I’ve not had the “luxury” of working from home. Instead, just as I did before the pandemic, I’ve been coming to the office to get the job done – bra required.

In recent weeks, I’ve been on the hunt for a new style. To be honest, I’m ready to ditch the underwire style I’ve been wearing in exchange for comfort – and support. A few weeks ago, I scavenged through the racks of the “intimates” section. It didn’t take long before I plucked a couple from the rack, took them home, tried them on and then placed them back in the bag.

Nope. This style was not my style.

Fast-forward a couple of weeks, I returned to the store to exchange them for yet another style.

Again, I plucked a couple of them from the rack, took them home, tried them on and, you guessed it, put them right back in the bag with the receipt.

That, of course, constituted yet another trip back to the “intimates” section. Just as I was about to “settle” for the usual style that I’ve been buying for decades – yes decades – I spied a soft-sided, non-underwire model. As you guessed, I plucked a couple of them off the rack, took them home, tried them on and lo and behold, tossed away the receipt.

Happily so, I’d finally found my match, and now just a few days in to this “new relationship,” I’ve come to the conclusion that whatever relationship we’re in ladies, comfort is key.
