David V. Granberg, 65
David Vernon Granberg, 65, of rural Valley Springs, died Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2018. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2018 at Beaver Valley Lutheran Church, rural Valley Springs, SD. Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. Monday, Nov. 5, at George Boom Funeral Chapel in Brandon, with his family present to greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m.
David Vernon Granberg was born Sept. 16, 1953 to Vernon and Donna (Rueb) Granberg in Valley Springs. He was baptized and confirmed at Beaver Valley Lutheran Church. David was raised on the family farmstead and received his education in Valley Springs and graduated from Brandon Valley High School. Following high school, David continued his education first in Worthington, Minn., and then earned his degree at South Dakota State University in Brookings.
David was married to Deb Hammer in 1979 and from this union was blessed with two sons, Brent and Jason. On July 30, 2005, David was united in marriage with Charlene Mikulichek-Ruzicka at Beaver Valley Lutheran Church. From this union, David was blessed with the addition of Charlene’s two sons, Jeremy and Jason.
David was a fourth-generation farmer who took great pride in continuing this tradition. He had a passion for being outdoors. He enjoyed hunting, shooting, fishing, camping, looking for rocks and fossils with his sons in the Black Hills of South Dakota, tending to his vegetable garden and sitting around the firepit with his family and friends. He was known for his Fourth of July bashes, which included large fireworks displays, food, and fun for all. Above all he cherished his time with his family. David was a loving son, husband, father, step-father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend who will be deeply missed.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Charlene Granberg, rural Valley Springs; two sons, Brent (Lynsay) Granberg, rural Valley Springs, and Jason (Misty) Granberg, Sioux Falls; two step-sons, Jeremy (Jennifer) Ruzicka of Hayes, Va., and Jason (Sarah) Ruzicka of Buda, Texas; eight grandchildren, Jadon, Ariauna, Atalee and Ellette Granberg, Hadley, Bailey, Harper and Cambry Ruzicka; two brothers, Dallas (Linda) Granberg of Valley Springs, and Richard (Dee) Granberg of Pierre, S.D.; and a host of other relatives and friends.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Vernon and Donna Granberg.
