The Absent Uncle: Old tools

Today, I waslooking at the garage menagerie of my tool display. I know that I have talked about the sorting of bolts and screws in previous columns, reflecting on the process of retirement and having the time and/or inclination to sort and store “stuff” for the one day you need it.

But today, I rearranged my tool board; seeing the need to move things lower, a bit more handy, and overall, it really just seems better

Then I looked at the tools. How long have they been with me? Some it seems forever. They are treasures. (DD) They have helped me get things done.

I have pliers that I inherited from my dad. Trusted hammers. Screwdrivers that have been used in any of number of projects for which they are prized. Not to mention the vise grips. Oh my. They have been used so many times to be a part of a solution to finish up a project that seemed to be destined for failure. Lots of other little things picked up over the years, used once and never forgotten. You just never know.

Tools. Including tape of all kinds, levels, tin snips, tape measures, squares, miter, and hacksaws – all there ready to be used to bring a project, repair, or situation to a positive result.

Take a look – whether it be a tool board or a tool chest, or just scattered over your workbench – I will bet you have the same relationship with your old tools.
