The Absent Uncle: Age

By:

So regular readers, please don’t take the ad line as what this column is all about. It is not about age. While we are all getting older, I really don’t want to remind you. And I do know you do not want me to remind you. Enough.

It’s about change. Almost the antithesis of age.

I was talking to my son and his wife earlier today. We were talking about the relevance of this subject for each of us. The concerns I have at age 70-plus versus the concerns of the two of them at 30-plus years old.

For me; at my age I certainly am more aware of health concerns, the need to follow up on medical testing, what I am feeling health wise, closely watching my diet (yeah, right), and overall, my physical condition from day to day.

For them; walking the dog daily, two or three times a week going to an exercise class; watching their diet, avoiding foods they have labeled as “bad”.

But that doesn’t work at 70-plus. It is no longer a casual thought, something to think about some other day in the future.  The difference also is you have to push forward daily, even if you don’t feel like it, you need to sweat, get fatigued, and just be OK with the results even though they don’t put you in the Olympic range. And be aware. Take care of yourself. Daily. It just never ends, until it does.
